WALLINGFORD - Martin “Marty” Maccione age 90, formerly of Oakville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14th 2019 at the Regency Health Care Center in Wallingford. He was the widower of Barbara (Mullenite) Maccione.

Marty was born November 11, 1928 in Oakville, CT, the son of the late Domenico and Delphina (Tomasino) Maccione. He was a graduate of Watertown High School and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Wart Conflict and spent many years as a slitter operator at Rafferty Brown Steele Co. until his retirement. Marty had two passions in life, horses and sports. He loved his three horses and proudly marched with them in the Macy’s Day Parade. He was also an avid athlete in his younger years, participating in soccer, basketball, and baseball while attending Watertown High School, and was still active in Watertown sporting events including, coaching and umpiring Little League baseball and was a strong supporter of the Watertown girls soccer program. He was the scoreboard keeper at Watertown High for over 20 years for all of their sporting events and refereed football for 45 years. He was a member of the Watertown Gold Circle Club and recipient of the Gold Circle of Sports Ring Award. He was also a long time parishioner of Saint Mary Magdalen Church and a 35 year supernumerary with the Watertown Police Department.

Among his survivors are his children; Domenico M. Maccione and his wife, Jean of Titusville, FL, Joyce Cunneen and her husband, Robert of Wallingford, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Anthony and Gerald Maccione and his sisters, Leah Couture, Mary Levitt, Natalie Sanbuoco and Rosie Maccione

Funeral Service for Mr. Maccione will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2019 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am at Saint Mary Magdalen Church 16 Buckingham St Oakville, CT. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Marty’s family on Monday evening from 5:00-7:00pm at the O’Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St. Oakville, CT 06779.
