Obituary for Richard Frank Valuckas

THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF RICHARD F.VALUCKAS

Lifelong Boston Red Sox fan

WATERTOWN -- Richard Francis Valuckas , 79, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, April 11, 2019, after a brief illness.

Richard was born Jan. 26, 1940 in Waterbury, a son of the late Kostantos and Mary (Stanevich) Valuckas. Richard attended St John the Evangelist Grammar School, Watertown High School, Post Junior College and received his accounting degree from the University of Hartford.

He spent 32 years working as an accountant for various state of Connecticut agencies, including the Department of Transportation and the Department of Social Services, before his retirement in 1996.

Richard was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, where he was a proud contributor to the Archbishops Annual Appeal. He was also a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Little People of America.

Richard was also a ham radio operator and enthusiast, and was a member of the Ground Observer Corps. He enjoyed chess, cribbage, stamp collecting, crossword puzzles, traveling, reading The Wall Street Journal and about American History.
An early follower of “The X-Files” television series, he also enjoyed watching The Sy-Fy, Turner Classic Movies and Discovery channels, UConn men’s and women’s basketball and of course the Red Sox. He loved Christmas, decorations and all the trappings of the season, and had an admitted sweet tooth.

Most of all, he treasured time spent with family, especially during the holidays and special occasions.

A loving brother, uncle and friend, Richard will be sadly missed by his loving family and all who were blessed to know and love him.

Among his survivors are his brothers, David Valuckas and his wife, Elizabeth, of Enfield, Peter Valuckas and his wife, Frieda, of Tacoma, Wash., Timothy Valuckas and his wife, Pauline “Polly,” of East Litchfield, Thomas Valuckas of Watertown, Michael Valuckas of Waterbury; his sisters, Sister Barbara Valuckas, SSND, and Judith Valuckas, both of Watertown; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother John Valuckas.
