“Member of the Greatest Generation”

OAKVILLE – William Thomas Neville, 94, passed away peacefully at home on February 20,2022 and has now joined his beloved wife, Rosemary.

William “Billy” was born on July 4, 1927 in Waterbury, the son of the late William T. Neville and Marcella (Gill) Neville and was raised surrounded by a large and loving family. Billy graduated from Leavenworth High School. As one of the “The Greatest Generation”, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944. William received the Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 2 stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. After retiring from his military service, he married his one true love, Rosemary Murphy, where they eventually settled in Oakville. William began a career in trucking. During the” Flood of 1955” he provided first responder aid throughout the impacted communities. His personal accounts of these few days were a family treasure. William retired from the State of CT, Southbury Training School in 1992. Despite not having children of their own, Billy and Rosie successfully raised 8 children, 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Their home was always open to the Lynch clan, who were fortunate to live next door to them. Although blind and almost completely deaf, William had a masterful understanding of world affairs. He believed in democracy with all of his soul.
